Die dooies
praat nie
Tydens ’n swaar reënbui stop Thys Krige by ’n Mini Cooper wat in ’n
mobilisasie gepraat, ’n tweede Marikana.

The
Krugersdorp Cult Killings
‘Le Roux first
pulled a plastic bag over Glen’s head – he had heard that doing so
keeps a person from vomiting while being strangled. Then he climbed
onto Glen’s back and strangled him from behind with the
“chokey-chokey”. Two minutes later Glen was dead, Marinda didn’t want
to leave him on the floor … she was afraid that some of her or her
children’s DNA remained on the body.’
|
|
|
Eleven murders over a period of four
years sent shock waves through the Krugersdorp community and made
headlines nationwide. The mastermind is Cecilia Steyn, leader of an
obscure cult, Electus per Deus.
The murderers are intelligent, ordinary people – including a teacher
and mother, an actuary, and a teenager who obtained six distinctions
while participating in a killing spree. Their victims merely kept
appointments, not knowing that these appointments were in fact with
their killers.
Who is Cecilia Steyn? How did she get six people to commit murder and
how did religion contribute to all of this?
Jana Marx, in-depth reporter at Netwerk24, answers these and other
questions in this hair-raising true-crime account.

Cult Killings is available at your nearest bookstore. The

Conversations
with Influencers
Life has never been better for those who know how to make the most of
their interests and their smartphone. Or has it? How do you turn your
social media presence into cash, not just free stuff? Once you get
selected for paid campaigns, how do you secure repeat business?
And, will TikTok still be around in a few years?
|
|
|
In Conversations
with Influencers, leading, verified influencers, as well as
advertising strategists, reveal the secrets, tips, tricks and pitfalls
of surfing the waves of the influencer industry.
In 2019, interviewer and author Elma Smit was handpicked by two global
sporting governing bodies as the face of their World Cup digital
content campaigns. As a reporter, she certainly scaled up; yet, she
continued to generate more revenue from influencer work. That’s when
she decided to speak to others and write about lessons learnt. Because,
as marketing guru Seth Godin says, “ideas shared, go up in value”.
Interviewees generously share how they’ve handled everything from a
very public divorce to becoming a YouTube sensation before graduating
from high school, how to bridge the jump from Instagram to TikTok and
turn once-off campaigns into monthly retainers.
Conversations with
Influencers e-book is available at LAPA and Amazon.

The Rodchenkov
Affair by Grigory Rodchenkov
In 2015, Russia’s Anti-Doping Centre was suspended by the World
Anti-Doping Agency following revelations of an elaborate
state-sponsored doping programme at the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics.
Involving a nearly undetectable steroid delivery system known as
‘Duchesse cocktail’, tampering and switching of urine samples, and a
complex state-sanctioned cover-up, the programme was masterminded by
Grigory Rodchenkov.
|
|
|
Charting the author’s childhood
growing up under the Iron Curtain, his first encounter with doping as a
22-year-old student athlete at Moscow State University, and his
subsequent career working for the Soviet Olympic Committee, this
breathtakingly candid journey reveals a rigged system of flawed
individuals, brazen deceit and impossible moral choices.
The Rodchenkov
Affair is available here.
